Professional Background

Mollie Deyong is an Associate in the Construction and Infrastructure Practice Group at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP. Mollie has a steadfast interest in infrastructure projects and has specialized in construction and infrastructure since the outset of her legal career.

She has honed her skills in respect of drafting and negotiating standard form and bespoke contracts of varying degrees of complexity, including design-build contracts, construction (design-bid-build) contracts, construction management contracts, supply contracts, and professional services contracts. She understands the importance of both high level risk considerations and technical details, and has facility with all manner of contract documents including technical specifications, commercial contract schedules, contractual amendments and change documentation.

In addition to providing front-end services, Mollie works with clients both large and small representing their interests in respect of a myriad of construction-related issues. She is a construction industry lawyer with experience in large-scale infrastructure disputes, negotiation, mediation, multi-party litigation, arbitration, procurement matters and resolving legal issues that arise on construction projects in both Ontario and British Columbia. She has experience working with large infrastructure owners, mid-size project owners and developers, contractors, suppliers, consultants and design professionals.

As her practice includes both front-end transactional work and dispute resolution for construction industry clients, Mollie is uniquely positioned to assess her clients’ needs, craft legal solutions that avoid costly disputes, and deliver cradle-to-grave construction project advice with a focus on service excellence.

Construction and Infrastructure Law

Founded in 1982 on a construction litigation platform, Singleton Reynolds has established itself as a leading construction firm in Canada, and continues to draw a large volume of assignments related to all aspects of the construction and infrastructure sectors.

Experience

Drafting and negotiating various forms of bespoke and standard form construction contracts on behalf of owners, developers, general contractors, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers, in respect of a range of project delivery models.
Representing owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration and litigation.
Advising owner clients in relation to major transit projects, post-secondary projects and large multi-family residential developments.
Advising consultants, contractors and suppliers in respect of risk management, mitigation and avoidance.
Involved in complex construction cases and projects involving multiple parties and stakeholders, including:
- Advising on procurement, preparing contract documents, and advising on project risk for a public owner in relation to a multi-million dollar project;
- Preparing contract documents and advising on claim management for a heavy civil contractor on a multi-million dollar infrastructure project;
- Representing and advising an infrastructure owner in relation to a multi-million dollar transit project;
- Advising an international infrastructure owner regarding a multi-billion dollar cross-border transportation project.
